Pain and Symptom Control
The goal of pain and symptom control is to help patients achieve comfort and relieve suffering while allowing them to stay in control of their lives. We manage medication and side effects so that patients remain as free of pain and symptoms as possible yet still alert enough to make important decisions.
Palliative Care
Our trained hospice and palliative care nurses concentrate on reducing the severity of disease symptoms, such as pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite, and difficulty sleeping. Our goal is to prevent and relieve suffering and to improve quality of life for people facing terminal illness.
Respite Care
Caring for someone with a terminal illness can be trying emotionally and physically. The Medicare benefit allows up to 5 days per certification period for inpatient respite care to give family members and caregivers an opportunity to spend time away from their loved one with the confidence that care will be provided in their absence.
Spiritual Support
Haven Hospice tends to the spiritual needs of patients and their families. Since people differ in their spiritual needs and religious beliefs, spiritual care is individualized to meet the specific needs of each patient and his or her family, including understanding the meaning of death, saying good-bye, and performing certain religious ceremonies and rituals.
Hygiene Care and Light Housekeeping
As basic personal care tasks become increasingly difficult, our hospice aides help maintain hygiene, assist in bathing and toileting, clean and tidy the immediate living area, etc. Our aides will also help with light housekeeping, which is meant to keep the home orderly through changing linens, making beds, dusting, vacuuming, handling laundry, watering plants, disposal of garbage and more.
Medications and Durable Medical Equipment
Haven Hospice provides pharmaceutical therapy for pain and symptom control in addition to the medications and biologicals that are related to the terminal diagnosis of the patient. We also provide medical equipment and supplies to promote safety, ease functional abilities, and support family members in the care of the terminally ill patient.
Grief and Bereavement Counseling
Families and caregivers need emotional support and assistance to care for their loved one and especially upon the person’s passing. We provide grief and bereavement counseling to family members to help them cope with the illness and loss of their loved one.
Physician Oversight
Our on-staff Medical Director works directly with our clinical team to review and manage each hospice case carefully and collaborates with a patient’s primary care physician, as needed. |
